The Power of Gifting

gifting gifts musings

This week I prepared two special boxes. One was intended to send comfort to a bereaved daughter and another to send congratulations and well-wishes to an expectant mom.

Both boxes were coming from a good place, the kind hearts of the friends who wanted to show support. This got me thinking about the contrasting events that happen in our lives and how in the simple act of curating and preparing gifts, I get to be part of making people feel thought of and loved no matter what they’re going through.

The power of sending simple boxes as an expression of support and comfort in times of sorrow; and of joy and elation in times of great milestones is far beyond what I had imagined when I started Dear Julie. I knew I wanted to share joy through giving, but it did not occur to me that the act of giving belies a spectrum of circumstances that we all face in life.

Funny how these realisations happen in the seemingly mundane act of tying a ribbon to finish a gift box. I’m just taking a moment to let it sit with me and think about how thankful I am that I get to do this.
